Increasing complexity in plant management in combination with time pressure handling the daily business requires also increasing demand to support industrial plant safety management (IPSM). This is necessary to avoid accidents at work for the plant workers as well as to protect contractors performing commissioned work. Furthermore, monitoring and complying with safety regulations before, during and after processing work orders, as well as regularly ensuring compliance with legal limits, reduces the plant operator’s liability claims. In particular, preventing liability claims when performing work through external companies and instructing them in the specific safety requirements for the plant are factors that can cause significant burdens for the plant operator. In front of these requirements the module IPSM of the CMMS system supports the plant operator in all these missions and furthermore ensures that in case of any accident, the recorded data is available to precisely analyze the situation and avoid similarly accidents in future. CMMS for industrial plant safety management is a fully integrated module and interacts with asset, equipment and work order information and also takes the plants environment into consideration. As a result this module creates an object called Work Permission. This data object includes all safety instructions necessary to consider before, during and after processing the work order. Furthermore, the work permission becomes automatically part of the integrated work flow process and therefore ensures that any work order assigned with a work permission cannot be executed until the responsible skilled worker has proven that the required safety instructions in combination with the required equipment shut down or switching it off-line has completely been performed.
